Who we need

The Senior Manager, Reinsurance will be accountable for all aspects related to reinsurance, and overseeing the calculation of experience rating refunds, at Securian Canada. In addition, you will also require working closely with finance, actuarial, pricing, claims as well as external brokers and reinsurers.

What you will do
  • Manage internal and external monthly, quarterly, and year-end reinsurance reporting;
  • Ensure that all regulatory reporting requirements and compliance activities are satisfied;
  • Perform reinsurance accounting activities including preparing, recording, maintaining, and reconciling to the general ledger and subsystems in accordance with company accounting policies;
  • Support the onboarding of new reinsurance transactions and acquisitions by establishing procedures to set up and maintain adequate reporting between involved parties;
  • Lead on the reinsurance audit for both external and internal auditors;
  • Technical research and the preparation of accounting memos to support accounting for (new) reinsurance transactions;
  • Maintain and ensures the accuracy and integrity of accounting records and adherence to the internal control environment;
  • Coordinate the quarterly loss reporting process with claims managers, actuaries, brokers, reinsurers, and claims handlers;
  • Research and drive forward process and system improvements to increase the efficiency and availability of reinsurance data for analysis and monthly reporting;
  • Work closely with various stakeholders on the reinsurance planning and forecasting processes;
  • Manage all reinsurer relationships and be the key representative for Securian Canada reinsurance work stream;
  • Oversee experience refund accounting and supply financial results to various stakeholders;
  • Manage a dedicated reinsurance administration and refund accounting team and exhibit Securian Canada values and guidelines;
  • Other projects and Ad-hoc reporting as required.


What you will bring
  • The education. A minimum of 5 years of relevant reinsurance experience at a broker, reinsurer, primary carrier, or other operating capacity. Additional designations - CPA, ARE, CPCU, LOMA would be preferred.
  • The knowledge. Knowledge in reinsurance treaty and structure. The ability to work with large volumes of data to derive business solutions. In depth knowledge of reinsurance concepts, products, and processes.
  • The experience. Automated accounting and reporting systems working experience.
  • The skills. The ability to identify and solve problems based on analysis (start to finish concept). Proven communication, presentation, and customer service skills. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. High proficiency in the use of MS Excel, SAP, reinsurance tools. Strong team leadership skills with emphasis on employee motivation. Excellent technical accounting skills.
