The Plant Pathology Lead will lead a team in screening canola breeding lines and hybrids for resistance to targeted pathogens causing canola diseases under field and controlled environment and to generate disease phenotype data sets for supporting registration of new InVigor hybrids.
As a Plant Pathology Lead, you create chemistry by...- Playing a significant role in characterizing stains of important canola disease pathogens and identifying emerging virulent pathotypes to use as inoculum under controlled and field disease screening.
- Leading the team in accomplishing greenhouse disease phenotyping when introducing resistance genes into parental lines in various greenhouse projects.
- Contributing to screening and identifying novel sources of resistance against important canola disease pathogens.
- Leading the team in setting up various disease nurseries in the field for screening canola germplasm across the prairie provinces.
- A M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Agriculture, Biological Sciences, Applied Microbiology, Plant Pathology, breeding or equivalent.
- 7(Ph.D MSc.) years' work experience in plant pathology or plant breeding or related field.
- Experience with various methods used in disease evaluations or ratings to complete tasks more efficiently.
- Experience with small plot research and conducting field experiments in multiple locations.
- Experience in managing a diverse team with strong organizational skills and ability to deliver results within project timelines.
- Skills in fungal culture isolations and technics under sterile lab conditions. Knowledge in plant disease diagnostics.
- Ability to work independently as well as contributing to a teamwork in a diverse and multi-departmental work environment.
- Knowledge of statistics, experimental designs, databases and MS office suite to help generate reliable data sets.
