Tax Manager

LOCATION: Sault Ste. Marie - ON - Canada

DEPARTMENT: Administration & Finance (ADFI)

Purpose

Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax laws and regulations for the operations in the country under their responsibility, including analysis and determination of tax payables and liabilities, and responding to audits from tax authorities in coordination with Global and Regional Tax. Also responsible for calculation and reporting of current and deferred taxes (IAS 12 calculations) for IFRS reporting purposes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations related to domestic tax matters, including the determination of tax liabilities and analysis of applicable tax laws.
  • Monitoring, analysis and evaluation of developments related to local tax legislation and legal obligations, including changes in tax practices, policies, procedures, or changes in business operations which may require action to be initiated.
  • Controls and supervises the preparation, calculation and filing of tax returns for the payment or refund of taxes.
  • Ensure timely compliance with audit requirements from domestic tax authorities, ensuring the application of uniform and consistent quality standards across the legal entities under responsibility.
  • Provide technical assistance to other functional areas requiring tax support for project financial analysis.

Skill, Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in tax and transfer pricing with the tax department of a multinational corporation or professional services firm
  • Working knowledge of SAP (running GL details, financial information, etc.).
  • Experience with OneSource Tax Provision software would be considered an asset.
  • Basic working knowledge of GST and PST administration is required; a strong knowledge of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Provincial Sales Tax (PST) legislation and policies is preferred.
  • Successful completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course (Level I and II) or Master of Tax Program
  • Experience with Canadian tax compliance and tax accounting under IFRS;
  • Experience with corporate income tax, GST/HST, non-resident audits initiated by the Canada Revenue Agency, and responding to and developing relationships with CRA Auditors
  • Excellent attention to detail and project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
