Job Summary:

The Journeyman Manual Machinist in Leduc, Alberta is responsible for the set up and operations of a variety of machine tools to grind metal, plastic or other materials to make or modify or repair parts with precise dimensions.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Use milling machines, lathes, saws, boring mills and drill presses in the manufacturing of requested parts;
  • Repair and rebuild of damaged parts using considerable judgment to ensure quality, correct parts, and/or proper procedures are used;
  • Maintain housekeeping on a daily basis to ensure a safe and clean work area;
  • Complete and maintain various records and documentation;
  • Familiarize self with operations controls such as safe working practices and job hazard analysis as appropriate to specific work tasks;
  • Daily Overhead Crane usage after course completion;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements (Minimum Education and Experience):

  • High School Diploma or GED required;
  • Apprenticeship status or Journeyman Machinist certification is required;
  • 3 - 5 years' experience preferred;
  • Overhead Crane Course is an asset, but will train in-house if necessary;

Technical Requirements (Software or Program Knowledge Needed):

  • Knowledge of hand tools & basic Manual and CNC machines.

HSE Requirements (Training and Physical Requirements):

  • Shop environment orientation (exits, fire extinguishers, first aid & eyewash stations, spill kits, propane storage) and yard environment (building locations, processes);
  • Squatting, bending, reaching, and walking (further details to be reviewed on JHA);
  • PPE training for possible noise exposure, mists/vapors, gloves, safety glasses and steel toed boots;
  • NOV in-house forklift training if required;
  • WHMIS training;
  • NOV in-house Overhead/Jib crane training;
  • Hand & Power tool safety training.
