Senior Cloud Data Engineer
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
As a Senior Cloud Data Engineer at RBC, the incumbent plays a pivotal role in facilitating the seamless integration of disparate data systems during pre- and post- mergers and acquisition (M&A) activities. The incumbent is responsible for architecting and implementing scalable cloud-based data solutions to consolidate, transform, and migrate data from various legacy systems into a unified platform, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance throughout the process. Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to develop innovative data strategies that optimize decision-making processes and drive business value post-transaction, thus enabling a smooth and efficient M&A transformation journey.
The incumbent will work within the scope of CGCS Corporate Systems with the scope of trade compliance, know-your-employee, governance, and corporate security domains during the transformation initiatives with RBC City National Bank and RBC Brewin Dolphin.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Lead the design and execution of data integration strategies, the senior cloud data engineer is responsible for harmonizing disparate data sources from merging entities within the banking industry. Oversee the migration of data to cloud-based platforms, ensuring seamless transfer while maintaining data integrity and security.
- Develop scalable and resilient cloud architectures tailored to the unique needs of M&A initiatives, the engineer designs solutions that enable efficient data processing, storage, and analysis. Leverage cloud-native technologies and best practices to create flexible and cost-effective infrastructures that support evolving business requirements.
- Establish robust data governance frameworks, the engineer ensures regulatory compliance and adherence to industry standards throughout the M&A process. Implement data quality controls, access management policies, and audit procedures to safeguard sensitive information and mitigate risks associated with data integration and consolidation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, data scientists, and IT professionals, the engineer fosters alignment and synergy across M&A transformation initiatives. Engage with stakeholders to understand business objectives, prioritize data requirements, and deliver solutions that meet organizational goals while addressing technical challenges and constraints.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement, the senior cloud data engineer explores emerging technologies and industry trends to enhance M&A processes and capabilities within the banking sector. Evaluate new tools and methodologies, identify opportunities for automation and optimization, and contribute to the evolution of data management practices to support future M&A activities and business growth.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Must have
- Advanced data integration and hands-on migration skills across diverse sources during M&A transitions.
- Intermediate skills with cloud infrastructure setup and configuration on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) to support data processing and storage.
- Advanced skills in data cleansing and transformation techniques for accurate insights. Intermediate ability with tuning performance and optimizing data processing efficiency and query performance.
- Implementation ability in security, authentication, API gateways and compliance according to RBC and industry regulations.
- Intermediate skills in the design and maintenance of ETL pipelines for seamless data movement. Advanced knowledge of data modelling to align with business requirements.
Nice-to-have:
- Extensive experience with cloud-based data technologies such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, along with proficiency in big data processing frameworks like Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
- Intermediate to advanced competency in several programming languages (Python, Java or Spark).
- Previous involvement in M&A projects within the banking or financial services industry.
- In-depth knowledge of data governance principles, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards relevant to the banking sector.
