The Social Worker III utilizes advanced knowledge and experience to function as a Clinical Specialist and is responsible for the clinical supervision of perinatal care, perinatal substance use and substance use Social Workers and clinical service delivery, teaching and research, including program development and coordination, and academic/community capacity development initiatives in perinatal care, perinatal substance use and substance use.

What you'll do

  • Provide leadership and support to perinatal care, perinatal substance use and substance use Social Workers and Social Work learners for capacity building activities such as developing and implementing curriculum and training using evidence based training methods.
  • Provide consultation to perinatal care, perinatal substance use and substance use Social Workers as well as interdisciplinary team members, residents, and other learners to ensure integration and adherence to the FIR Model of Care.
  • Participate in complex service planning by methods such as consulting on complex cases and challenges with internal and external stakeholders across the province for the perinatal substance use population.
  • Provide formal supervision of perinatal substance use and substance use Social Workers by methods such as instructing, observing, reviewing and providing feedback to the individual, and debriefing afterwards to promote learning.
  • Develop curriculum for perinatal and substance use population needs and provides education based on clinical expertise across the interdisciplinary team, Social Work learners and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the quality of the clinical training/curriculum, consultation and supervision.
  • A member of the FIR leadership team and participate in committee work within the Social Work discipline for perinatal and substance use programs.

What you bring

  • Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited school of Social Work.
  • Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent relevant experience combined perinatal, substance use, and/or mental health.
  • Additional training in Indigenous Cultural Safety, Trauma & Violence Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Completion of a recognized leadership program or two (2) years' recent experience working in a formalized leadership role.
  • Completion of British Columbia Centre on Substance Use Fellowship and/or relevant experience.
  • Additional postgraduate education and/or experience relevant to perinatal substance use.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
  • Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents - including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
