Job SummaryThis is a permanent, outdoor field-based role that assists the pre-commercial canola production team in a timely and efficient manner, while meeting all quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Clean down equipment following safety and compliance standards.
- Operate machinery/equipment to ensure seed production processes occur safely, effectively, and with quality.
- Support local team in all functions of seed production, including spring tillage and soil preparation, crop planting, cultivation, irrigation, pesticide application, scouting, rouging, male plant line removal, swathing, and harvest.
- Manage seed inventory, including operation of inventory database, seed sampling, shipping, storage, and discards.
- Work in an indoor growth room setting, bagging plants, manually pollinating, harvesting, and inventorying.
- Assist with developing procedures for field and growth room production.
- Assist with monitoring previous year's seed production fields and controlling volunteer canola plants as directed.
- Assist in the development and implementation of farm safety and stewardship procedures.
- Ensure timely entries for field data collection and production records.
- Provide support to field production of other seed crops and projects as needed.
- Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures when service is needed for maintenance.
- Utilize focused improvement techniques to initiate process and standard work improvements.
- Provide coaching and training to seasonal workforce, area trainees, and peers to support achievement and personal development.
- Support areas across sites in driving the adoption of continuous improvement practices and programs.
- Ensure upstream activities are handled within company standards and business requirements.
- Cultivate partnership with key business partners to plant/field operations.
- Maintain key process documentation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to Bayer's Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control standards.
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures and support compliance with legal requirements applicable to area activities.
- Participate in and lead meetings as needed, articulating shift objectives and allocating resources accordingly.
- Support and maintain metrics and relevant information on current Visual Management boards.
- High School Diploma.
- Basic knowledge of IT (Internet, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, or facilities with systems).
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds regularly.
- Availability to meet overtime demands, including occasional work on weekends and holidays.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable with change and ability to adjust quickly to changing conditions and work demands.
- Certification in management systems or continuous improvement practices.
- Previous experience with SAP, Spotfire, Tablo, or Microsoft PowerBI.
- Previous experience in seed production and/or processing.
- Experience with hauling trailers and loading/unloading equipment.
- Excellent computer skills and ability to work in all Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to obtain a BC agriculture pesticide applicators license.
- 5+ years of agricultural/Canola seed production experience or other relevant industry experience.
- Bilingual Spanish/English.
- Understanding of digital farming techniques using GPS, data collection, and record keeping.
