The District of Kitimat is recruiting for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. This is a Regular, Full-Time position. The Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Department is the only dual service department in the Province, providing both fire fighting and paramedic services to the community.

The Recruitment Weekend takes place over 4 consecutive days (just one trip to Kitimat) and includes the following:

InterviewPhysical Fitness (medical exam, fitness and agility test)Aptitude Test (mechanical and paramedic)
NEW: The District will provide a partial travel reimbursement subsidy for those invited to attend the recruitment weekend. For those hired, we also provide relocation assistance and a twelve-month rental subsidy in accordance with our hiring policy.

Located in Northwest BC, Kitimat is home to just over 8,000 residents, with a stable tax base and is experiencing growth from increased levels of industrial, residential, and commercial development. As a Firefighter/Paramedic, your primary functions are fire/rescue, pre-hospital emergency medical care, inspection/fire prevention and daily maintenance of the fire hall and equipment.

Preference will be given to those candidates with the following qualifications: NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualification Level I & IIPrimary Care Paramedic certificationBC Class 3 & 4 Driver's License with Air Brake EndorsementAbility to obtain Security Clearance and Police Information and Vulnerable Sector CheckWork experience related to firefighting and/or pre-hospital carePost-secondary educationIV endorsement
Partially qualified applicants from Fire or Paramedicine with the following qualifications may also be considered: Primary Care Paramedic certification or NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualification Level I & II and a BC EMR licence certification
Wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement and include wage parity to the City of Vancouver. Starting wage for this position is $37.63 and increases upon years of service to a maximum of $56.98. A Captains rate is $67.55. These are the 2024 wages.
