An Infantry Officer performs a wide range of duties, from commanding and leading soldiers as part of a team to occupying various staff positions involving planning, training, intelligence, logistics and personnel administration.
As commissioned members of Canada s Infantry regiments, which belong to the Combat Arms, Infantry Officers can operate anywhere in the world, in any environment including Arctic tundra, mountains, jungle or desert and in any combination of arms, including parachute, airmobile and amphibious operations.
The primary role of Infantry during operations is to be involved in combat. Infantry Officers experience the unique challenges of working outdoors in various weather conditions.When not in the field, Infantry Officers are responsible for garrison duties, which include physical training, office work and supervision, mixed with instructing staff and outdoor field and weapons training.
Office work is focused on personnel administration and maintenance of weapons, equipment, and vehicles. These duties usually occur during regular working hours.Reserve Force members usually serve part time at a Reserve Force Division in their community and may serve while going to school or working at a civilian job.
They are paid during their training. They are not posted or required to do a military move. However, they can volunteer to move to another base. They may also volunteer for deployment on a military mission within or outside Canada.As a reservist, you will work one night a week, one weekend per month during the September to April timeframe.
There may be opportunities for more employment throughout the year however that is not guaranteed. We offer full time summer employment, beginning 1 May until 31 Aug, this is a great opportunity for students.All successful applicants will be required to complete the Basic Military Qualification course (BMQ), either part time, (Friday to Sunday every other weekend for 11 weekends) normally held between September and March or full time in the summer (Monday to Friday) for 5 weeks.
Followed by a two-week Basic Military Officer Qualification course. The next summer the successful applicant will attend the Basic Military Officer Qualification LAND course for 11 weeks.Upon completion of the Basic Military Qualification Course, candidates will be required to attend the Infantry Officer training course for 13 weeks.
This course is run during the summer and all candidates are required to reside in the barracks for the duration of the course.
