Job Title: Instructional Assistant II
Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and passionate individual to support the day-to-day maintenance and operations of our lab/shop spaces, delivering technical lessons and evaluating students in a hands-on learning environment.
About the Role:
The Instructional Assistant II will be responsible for maintaining and calibrating lab/shop equipment, ensuring lab security, and delivering technical lessons in the lab/shop environment. The successful candidate will also be responsible for evaluating students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, providing feedback, and demonstrating lab/shop equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lab/Shop:
- Maintain and calibrate lab/shop equipment
- Ensure lab security
- Manufacture specialized items when required
- Ensure work area is in a safe and clean condition
- Inventory and Budget Control:
- Maintain consumables and inventory of equipment
- Obtain quotes when ordering new equipment
- Instructional Support:
- Independently, and/or team teach, deliver in lab/shop technical activities/lessons
- Evaluate students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided by instructors, and provide feedback
- Independent supervision of students
- Demonstrate lab/shop equipment
- Prepare, setup and dismantle lab/shop exercises
- Assist or perform lab/shop demonstrations of equipment under the supervision of instructional support
- Ensure knowledge of related equipment including use and application
- Assist instructional staff when required ensuring the safe and correct use of equipment
- Student Support:
- Provide tutorial/remedial support
- Assist students in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperation with other staff members
- Ensure students are working in a safe condition
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong oral & written communication
- Strong Interpersonal skills
- Strong time management & organizational skills
- Initiative and ability to work independently
- Knowledge of computers and use of Microsoft suite of programs
- Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted
- Ability to work flexible hours and assignments
Qualifications:
- Trades certification and/or related technical diploma and completion of Red Seal
- 5 - 8 years post journeyman completion
- Class 5 drivers license required
- Forklift training an asset
- Man-lift training an asset
- Fall Arrest an asset
