We are looking for a talented Policy Analyst to join our Strategic Integration team. This team plays a key role in progressing the electricity transition by balancing objectives of affordability, reliability, competition, and efficiency, while ensuring a coordinated and consistent approach to organizational initiatives as Alberta's electricity sector is transformed by new technologies and decarbonization objectives. Reporting to the Director, Strategic Integration, you will support collaboration activities amongst the Strategic Integration team and the broader AESO, as well as support AESO governance activities. You will integrate crucial considerations from market operations, economic efficiency implications, grid operations, reliability, legal, policy, industry, and stakeholder and government perspectives to support recommendations on strategies, potential changes or actions related to relevant areas.

Accountabilities include:

  • Monitor and advise on public policy changes related to the electricity sector.
  • Analyze, understand, and communicate market, cost, reliability, operational or other relevant considerations resulting from increasing amounts of renewable electricity supply, emerging low carbon generation technologies, increasing electrification and other transformative trends on the electricity system.
  • Apply expertise on the public policy changes as well as input gathered from other experts to determine priorities and work scope, ensure focused and relevant work efforts, and resolve issues.
  • Support cross-functional team and group discussions within the organization through leveraging effective relationship skills to build consensus and align towards development of recommendations.
  • Incorporate a variety of perspectives and employ creativity to develop and defend recommendations which balance trade-offs between complex and competing objectives.
  • Support critical stakeholder management and engagement​ activities to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate, facilitate and document outcomes from internal and external discussions on relevant topics.

You have:

  • An undergraduate degree in business, economics, policy, law, engineering or equivalent, or experience equivalent to degree or designation. An advanced degree is an asset.
  • A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in electricity markets or renewable energy policy.
  • Understanding of the relationship between legislation, regulation, and policy matters, in the context of the electricity industry.
  • Experience with assessing or developing public policy relating to the electricity industry.
  • Change endurance and resilience in working through uncertain outcomes. Our environment experiences changing factors as the pace of change increases.
