About the Role:

The Cook is a critical position within our communities, impacting the lives of residents and fostering a sense of warmth and connection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up equipment and supplies for food preparation, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Prepare meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes, and menu documents, maintaining high standards of quality and presentation.
  • Provide for prescribed diets, adhering to temperature and portion control guidelines.
  • Monitor the quality of food supplies received and advise the team leader on any issues or concerns, recommending corrective actions.
  • In the absence of the team leader, assume responsibility for departmental operations, including menu changes, requisitions, and purchases from authorized suppliers.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new team members, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Attend in-service meetings, staying up-to-date on industry best practices and company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the residence.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 minimum education required.
  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program.
  • One year experience in volume food preparation, catering, and special events preparation.
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and Smart Serve certificate.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check (applicable to Ontario applicants) and Criminal Records Check (applicable to British Columbia applicants).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in large quantity food preparation and cooking in Health, Long Term Care, or Retirement Residence.
  • Red Seal Designation.
