We are seeking a skilled Variable Annuity Hedging Specialist to join our team at Manulife Financial Corporation. As a key member of our General Account Investment Division, you will be responsible for establishing and managing hedging programs to mitigate market risks associated with variable annuity and indexed universal life products.
About the Role:- Analyze proposals for new hedging strategies and conduct due diligence work to determine the overall effectiveness of a hedging strategy.
- Conduct statistical analysis using R/Python and analyze large data sets to identify trends and patterns.
- Provide subject matter expertise on specific segments of capital markets, including equities, commodities, FX, credit, and fixed income.
- Develop new tools and metrics using Excel/VBA/Matlab/Python to evaluate hedging strategies.
- Collaborate with Actuarial Modeling, Equity Risk Oversight, traders, product, and pricing teams on hedging programs targeting in-force and new business.
- Conduct research to compare alternative hedging strategies and determine the overall effectiveness of a hedging strategy.
- Develop and maintain hedging models and tools to evaluate hedging strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement hedging programs.
- Provide regular reporting and updates on hedging program performance.
- At least 5 years' experience working in finance/capital markets.
- Demonstrated quantitative aptitude, at the minimum level consistent with undergraduate mathematics/actuarial science/science.
- Good theoretical knowledge of finance and derivatives, preferably together with practical knowledge including market conventions, specific product knowledge, and best practices of quantitative modeling in industry.
- Experience using VBA, SQL, EXCEL, ACCESS, MATLAB+ODBC, scripting tools, including an understanding and application of basic professional coding practices, version control, and documentation standards.
- Proficient in at least one of R/Python/C/C++ with experience analyzing large data sets.
