This posting will be used to fill a two month Locum casual position, with a possibility of extension to six month for a Registered Midwife position..

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Who we are

Maternity services will be delivered through the Whitehorse Midwifery Clinic, privileges at Yukon Hospital Corporation, and in a range of community settings. Yukon RMs work closely with physicians, nurses, medical office assistants and other health and social professionals. RMs will be responsible for maintaining a practice environment that is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and physically, psychologically, and culturally safe.

Who we are looking for

Reporting to the Clinical Manager of Midwifery, Registered Midwives (RM) will provide prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum and neonatal health care to individuals and their babies. They will provide comprehensive, primary health care including health assessments, diagnoses, interventions, and follow-up care.

The RM may be the first point of entry to maternity services and are fully responsible for the clinical decision making and the management of care within their scope of practice. They ensure consistent and quality culturally safe, relationship-based midwifery care that contributes to the achievement of optimal maternal and child health outcomes for pregnant Yukoners in their care.

Essential qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Bachelor Degree in Midwifery, or equivalent assessed through a Prior Learning Experience Assessment (PLEA) program or Bridging Program in a Canadian province.
  • Recently applied knowledge of evidence-based midwifery theory, practices, techniques, and risk management acquired through work experience as a Registered Midwife.
  • Demonstrated Northern, remote or rural experience providing midwifery care is an asset.

Conditions of employment

You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Recent TB screening
  • Proof of required degree or certificate
  • Current registration in good standing as a Midwife with a Canadian regulatory authority.
  • Completion of Yukon Midwifery Licensing prior to commencement
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search)
  • Minimum three satisfactory professional references, one of which could be the Chief of Medical Services or Senior Medical Administrator of the organization of most recent employment
  • Prior to commencement, the applicant must sign/accept the terms and conditions of the Yukon Hospital Corporations Hospital Act, its Regulations, and Bylaws in order to obtain hospital privileges
  • Hospital privileges must be maintained annually as prescribed by Yukon Hospital Corporation's Bylaws and Regulations
