The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant . This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reports to the Principal Investigator.

The Integrating Prevention into Connect Care for Health (IPiC-Health) research project aims to integrate Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral (SBIR) within Connect Care-facilitated clinical workflows to identify and address tobacco use, alcohol use, and physical inactivity and to demonstrate the feasibility, acceptability and impact of SBIR.

Position located in Edmonton, Alberta.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Coordinate with the research project team to help ensure that clinical research and related activities are performed in accordance with AHS regulations, policies and procedures

Informing patients about study objectives, assist with their understanding and any questions related to the informed consent process and data collection questionnaires

Obtain informed consent from patients and recruit research participants

Administration of survey/questionnaire for collection data

Ensure completeness and accuracy of data collection using standardized procedures

Data entry, cleaning, coding, and verification using standardized procedures (such as using Flexicapture software)

Daily communication with patients, family and care givers, and with clinic staff

Maintains adequate inventory of study supplies including consent forms, surveys, brochures/handouts and posters within clinic

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum completion of post-secondary education in health or a related discipline
  • At least 2 years of experience working within a university-based research environment
  • Experience of working with healthcare providers, patients or in healthcare settings is an asset
  • Previous health research experience (such as interaction with research participants, research participant recruitment, intervention implementation, data collection) is an asset
  • Skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); Internet skills
  • Organized, resourceful and self-starting, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Proven ability to work in a team setting
