The City of Markham is seeking a qualified Drumming Instructor to lead drumming lessons for participants of all ages and abilities.
Job SummaryAs a Drumming Instructor, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and leading drumming lessons, ensuring a positive and safe environment for participants and peers.
Key Responsibilities:- Facilitate, lead, and supervise drumming programs
- Develop and submit lesson plans, reviewing them with the Recreation Supervisor/Program Coordinator prior to class
- Prepare and organize program equipment and supplies, maintaining an inventory and reporting any needed replacements
- Keep attendance records and check with participants with extended absences
- Ensure all participant emergency and medical information is obtained through a personal data form
- Communicate with parents and participants about upcoming events, program changes, or cancellations
- Guide volunteers and PT Program Assistants as required
- Ensure safety at all times, enforcing safety regulations and reducing risk to staff and participants
- Completion of High School Diploma with an above-average grade in Music
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated expertise in music theory and technique
- Currently active in the field of music
- Knowledge of Basic Drumming principles and operation of Drumming equipment and facilities
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR "C" certification
- High Five Certificate and adherence to the principles of Healthy Child Development
- Technical and practical training at an advanced level
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, leadership skills, and customer service skills
- Service Excellence: Meets or exceeds service standards when interacting with customers
- Change & Innovation: Responds positively and professionally to change
- Teamwork & Relationship Building: Interacts with others in an inclusive and respectful way
- Communication: Communicates in a clear and professional manner
