Your role

We are looking for a Videographer to join the Radio-Canada Colombie-Britannique team in Vancouver.

Based on current plans, you will be assigned primarily to the weekend shift and be scheduled from Wednesday to Sunday, with your Friday assignment being as a Resource Specialist.

As a Videographer, you will perform tasks related to shooting and editing news items and programs. As a Resource Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, selecting, organizing and acquiring staff and equipment to meet the day's production requirements. Work is generally performed according to accepted CBC/Radio-Canada or industry standards, but there is latitude for independent action, judgment and initiative. Duties are performed under the guidance of the Operations Producer as well as the on-air host of the weekend Téléjournal newscasts. You may also be required to work without immediate supervision. The job requires someone able to work under pressure while remaining professional.

Key tasks:
  • Prepare, align and set up field cameras, ensuring optimum visual and technical quality under prevailing conditions.
  • Light the subject or scene; compose and record program material using a camera, with an eye to meeting technical and esthetic requirements for editing.
  • Edit audio and video.
  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment.
  • Shoot stills for our digital platforms.
  • Co-ordinate production resources, including the sending and receiving of audiovisual material, and the recording of items on the Téléjournal set.
  • And as a Resource Specialist:
    • Provide advice on optimizing resources and prioritizing their use in the event of scheduling conflicts.
    • Ensure that clients have proper access to facilities provided and that these are in a suitable condition for the intended use.
    • Assign, co-ordinate and prioritize needs for operations personnel.
    • Ensure that the scheduling, assignment and other reporting systems under your responsibility are updated accurately and in a timely fashion.
As assigned or required, you may perform any or all of the following tasks:
  • Ask scripted questions of subjects being recorded.
  • Help produce infographic content.
  • Ensure the proper functioning, maintenance, shipment and storage of materials and/or facilities provided or acquired.
What you bring:

Objective criteria:
  • College diploma or equivalent
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of daily television and digital program production methods
  • Understanding of picture composition and single-camera lighting
  • Three (3) or more years' specialized experience in the news field or remote broadcasting
  • Ability to edit recorded items on appropriate/available editing systems, such as Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro and vMix
  • Excellent command of French (French-speaking work environment)
  • Intermediate oral, writing and reading proficiency in English (BBB)
  • Proficiency with production resource equipment, routers and recording gear at the Vancouver station (Dejero, Capture, etc.)
  • Resourcefulness to find solutions to maintenance issues when specialized staff are not around
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Ability to work various shift patterns, including overnights and weekends, often in unexpected overtime situations
