General Accountability
The Provincial Manager, Research Support is responsible and accountable for supervising the daily organization and administration of the Research Support Unit. Reporting to the Director, Research Development & Strategy, the Manager of Research Support is responsible for overseeing a team of research administration experts to facilitate research across the SCA.
The Manager will be responsible for the establishment and maintenance of provincial policies that support the responsible conduct of research across the entire research life cycle. The Manager will identify and manage the Agency's risk tolerance as it relates to research projects.
The Manager will oversee a team with expertise to support investigators in the design and start-up of projects as well as to support investigators in meeting expectations for delivering high quality research and complying with institutional policies and processes. The Manager will work with executive and senior leaders to implement the strategic vision for research across the SCA.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in a health-related field.
- Certificate in Research Administration is an asset.
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in research administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of provincial and federal research funding agencies and programs, and their guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Experience in compliance and risk management connected to research projects, grants, and awards.
- Experience in research budget development, monitoring, and reporting.
- Experience with research contract administration, including evaluating and implementing research related agreements.
- Experience overseeing the review, evaluation, and editing of research grants.
- Understanding of a range of research and evaluation methodologies and methods. Familiarity with Research Ethics processes.
- A combination of education and leadership experience may be considered.
Skills
- Demonstrated effectiveness in establishing and maintaining relationships with funding agencies and industry partners, and initiatives to secure research opportunities for faculty and students.
- Ability to work in a consultative and collaborative fashion with a variety of key stakeholders.
- Highly developed organizational abilities, including time management, priority setting, balancing competing deadlines and project management skills.
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of general and fund accounting as it applies to research.
- Strong strategic and critical thinking skills and demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Solid leadership and management competencies, consistent with Agency expectations for individuals in leadership and management roles. Excellent collaboration and delegation skills.

- Leadership/supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
- Strong ability to plan and manage numerous processes, people and projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency working in a computer-based environment using Windows, SharePoint and Microsoft Office.
