Job Opportunity: Business Development Specialist (Term position- Immediately till July 31, 2025)

The Business Development Specialist plays a pivotal role in the lead generation and qualification process for INS' investment attraction efforts on an assigned sector basis. This role is responsible for leading the process of initiating contact with prospective companies for business expansion in Nova Scotia within the defined sectors. The Business Development Specialist conducts primary and secondary research on leads generated by the Strategy, Research and Marketing teams to determine a prospective company's business expansion intentions, potential fit with Nova Scotia, and key decision makers.

In this role, the successful candidate will:


• Undertake primary and secondary research to uncover expansion plans within prospective companies and identify potential connections and/or linkages to Nova Scotia.


• Categorize leads according to analysis of fit for business expansion in Nova Scotia.


• Utilize Salesforce and connect with relevant staff across INS to uncover past connections/efforts with identified leads.


• Identify key decision makers within prospective companies, mine, and leverage connections and/or linkages to Nova Scotia.


• Collaborate with Strategy, Research and Marketing to develop impactful content aimed at prospective companies to generate awareness and interest in Nova Scotia as a business location.


• Assemble and implement targeted digital marketing and social media initiatives aimed at prospective companies.


• Initiate INS' first contact with decision makers within prospective organizations and facilitate the introduction of relevant members of the Investment Attraction team.


• Ensure leads are effectively and thoroughly entered, tracked, and updated in Salesforce, and liaise with Investment Attraction Executives for feedback on progress with qualified leads.


• Responsible for presenting the Nova Scotia value proposition to prospective clients looking to invest and grow in the Nova Scotian business economy/environment.


• Provide support to the Corporate Office business unit at INS hosted sales events or at significant trade shows as required.


• Participate in the strategic selling 'Team NS' for large identified and targeted accounts as required.


• Support and co-host events as required.

Education/ Professional Experience:

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree or 2-year diploma in Business, Science or Commerce as well as a minimum of three (3) years of direct sales or business development experience.An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
