This is a full-time TERM position until June 30, 2025. Temporary assignments will be considered.

The Geothermal and Petroleum Resources branch is responsible for regulating the exploration and responsible development of Yukon's oil and gas resources. We issue oil and gas rights, administer licenses, and regulate industry activities and infrastructure. In addition, we are working to develop legislation to regulate geothermal resources in the territory.

The Senior Geothermal and Petroleum Advisor is responsible for managing, leading and advising on the development of research, policy, strategies, negotiation-mandate papers, plans and legislation in support of oil and gas and geothermal resource management.

The incumbent also leads and participates in consultations and resource planning initiatives with other Yukon government departments, federal, provincial, territorial and First Nation governments, boards and councils, stakeholders and public to ensure that corporate resource management and development objectives are achieved to the greatest extent possible.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Public Administration, Natural Resources Management, Engineering, Political Science, Business Administration, Communications, Law or a related field
  • Considerable experience with researching, analyzing, writing reports and developing policies and legislative initiatives
  • Experience providing advice, recommendations and drafting decision making documents on complex issues to decision makers, preferably in natural resource management
  • Experience in leading and managing large projects including permitting, contracting and budgeting
  • Experience working and negotiating with other governments, including First Nations and stakeholders would be an asset
  • Technical working experience in the fields of petroleum, geothermal or other natural resources sectors, including regulation, would be an asset

Candidates who have a combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to work independently, but also work effectively in a broader team environment, which may include contractors, remote workers, public servants from other jurisdictions, technical experts
