Calgary, Alberta, Canada University of Calgary Full time

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. The City of Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, and the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases, at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary invites applications for a Canada Research Chair Tier 1, position at the rank of Associate Professor (Tenure Track) or Professor (with Tenure) in Systems Immunology. This position guarantees 75% protected time for research. The selected candidate will be nominated for a Tier I Canada Research Chair (CRC). The CRC is tenable for seven years and renewable once.

The selected applicant will be an emerging or recognized leader in the field of immunology and will have extensive expertise in the application of novel systems or computational methodologies to obtain a holistic understanding of the immune system. Areas of potential focus would include, but not be limited to, infection immunity, inflammation, autoimmunity, allergy, neuro-immunology, or microbiome-immune interactions. The program will be potentially complementary and collaborative with current strengths in the School of Medicine built around cutting-edge core facilities such as the International Microbiome Centre, a Containment Level 3 facility, the Live Cell Imaging Centre, the Wild Microbiome and Immunity Centre, the Perkins Microbial Communities Core and the recently established Human Organoid Innovation Hub.

Qualifications include a PhD and/or MD (not practicing clinical medicine) or equivalent, and postdoctoral research fellowship experiences. The chosen candidate must demonstrate evidence of leading a research team and significantly contributing to work that has influenced their field, obtaining national grant support, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level or equivalent. The applicant must also meet the criteria for a Canada Research Chair at the Tier I level. Further information about the Canada Research Chairs Program, including eligibility criteria, can be found on the Government of Canada's CRC website.

Applicants at the Associate Professor level must present evidence of an established, externally funded (at the level of Tri-Council or equivalent peer reviewed National/International organization) research program, a strong publication record as evidenced by continuous publication in high ranking journals, including as senior or first author. Applicants must show evidence of successful teaching and/or graduate supervision, and evidence of established academic engagement in professional and other communities.

Applicants at the Professor level must provide evidence of a continuous, externally funded (at the level of Tri-Council or equivalent peer reviewed National/International organization) and well-established research program, outstanding academic publication record as evidence by continuous publication in high impact journals or leading in the field, demonstrated ability to lead research teams, outstanding teaching and graduate supervision record, and evidence of academic service and/or leadership.

The selected applicant will join the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases and become an active member of the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases. The Department and Institute has a well-recognized multi-disciplinary research environment that will support the chosen applicant's ability to direct a collaborative research program in systems immunology research. The Department and Institute prioritizes trans-disciplinary research initiatives, and the selected applicant's ability to build connections with investigators across the Cumming School of Medicine and the University of Calgary in such initiatives will position them to be successful.

In addition to fostering a thriving training program, the selected candidate will participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Experience with lecturing and innovative educational approaches, course development and coordination, and a demonstrated record of impact in undergraduate teaching would be an asset. The selected applicant will also have opportunities to be involved in administrative and service activities that affect the Cumming School of Medicine community.
