John Howard Society of York Region delivers the PAR Program through a psycho-educational model to individuals charged with a criminal offence against a current or former partner, while also providing information and support to the victims of these incidents.
The program has two primary goals:
to enhance safety and to increase accountability.
JOB PURPOSE & SCOPE:
The function of this position is to work with the partners of individuals participating in the PAR Program.
The Partner Contact Worker will contribute to enhancing partner safety and providing the partner with information about the PAR Program and community resources that might be of assistance.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Provide short-term case management to current and ex- partners of PAR participants over the telephone, online platforms, and in-person when necessary
- Provide information about the PAR Program and work collaboratively with individuals to ensure needs are met such as safety planning, shelter assistance, basic needs support.
- Complete intake and needs assessments for individuals to determine relevant community supports that meet the needs of a unique and diverse client demographic
- Complete required administrative tasks including but not limited to statistical input, reporting, telephone and email communication, client file maintenance, and administering exit interviews
- Conduct outreach to other community agencies to enhance service delivery and establish partnerships in areas specific to client needs
- Exercise a flexible, non-judgmental, anti-racist and anti-oppressive approach to people and work
- Assist agency in program enhancement through identification of service gaps
- Attend and participate in relevant committees, as directed by the Program Manager
- Adhere to directives and program standards of the Ministry of the Attorney General and JHSYR
- Maintain and respect professional boundaries with clients and colleagues
- Attend staff and team meetings, remote or in person
- Complete training and engage in continuous learning as directed by the Program Manager
- Flexibility to work daytime, evening, and/or Saturdays
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-Secondary education in relevant Human Services field (e.g. Social Work, Criminology, Psychology, Social Services) or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- Work experience with those who have experience IPV
- Lived experience with IPV is an asset
- Experience working with criminal justice involved individuals and diverse communities with an understanding of the barriers and factors leading to criminal justice involvement, socioeconomic barriers and language barriers
- Knowledge regarding intimate partner violence, child abuse, and the dynamics of violence and abuse
- Ability to articulate an analysis of domestic violence as it relates to gender roles, effects on children, socialization, and the dynamics of power and control
- Ability to work from client-centered, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive/anti-racist framework
- Strong time management skills with an ability to multi-task
- Experience in a case management role is considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of local York Region community partners, with an ability to source out resources beyond York Region for specific client needs
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
- Ability to liaise successfully with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Professional demeanor with strong rapport and relationship building skills
- Strong sense of team cohesion and collaboration, with the ability to work independently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (SharePoint, Teams) and online meeting platforms
- Oral and written proficiency in English and French at the superior level is preferred
- Ability to speak multiple languages is an asset
- Ability to commute throughout York Region mandatory
