Resource and Capacity Planning Specialist

Develop and validate resource and capacity plans to ensure sufficient capacity exists to meet expected demand, analyzing key operations metrics and providing insights to inform target setting processes.

Purpose of the Position:
The Specialist Resource and Capacity Planning role develops, validates, supports and drives improvements to the integration of demand and resource plans, ensuring sufficient capacity exists to meet expected demand. This involves developing, updating, improving and maintaining models, creating simulations and multiple scenarios, and generating strategic and variance analyses of alternative operating methods and practices.
Position Accountabilities:
- Develop and improve monthly, annual and multi-year forecasts for resource drivers such as train & people starts, workload metrics, train productivity, train speed, locomotive productivity, fuel, car fleets and other key performance indicators.
- Develop variance reporting and scorecards against corporate targets, collecting, validating and improving data quality, analyzing results and providing executive summaries to senior management and executive levels with recommendations.
- Analyze key operations metrics based on forecasts and initiatives, developing insights to inform target setting processes over annual and multi-year time frames.
- Support and lead the Resource and Capacity Planning process, creating quarterly assessments of capability to meet firm demand.
- Develop, improve and maintain models for the assessment of resource supply, trends and constraints, improving the Capacity planning process.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in science, mathematics, statistics, economics or another quantitative field.
- 5+ years of work experience, railroad experience not mandatory but preferred.
- Working knowledge of forecasting KPIs, demand and supply.
- Computer skills (word processing, advanced Excel, statistical software, database and project management).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (executive presentations level).
- Advanced problem-solving abilities.
- Working knowledge of statistical methods.
- Working knowledge of data science.

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
