Intermediate Mechanical Engineer

Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer for a permanent full-time position based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The role involves being the system owner for multiple mechanical ship systems on a ship design and build program. The responsibilities include overseeing design, equipment procurement, installation, and commissioning of systems on a Naval ship, as well as managing interactions with various stakeholders for successful system delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • P. Eng, or ability to become P. Eng, in Nova Scotia
  • Experience: 4+ years of Engineering experience in shipbuilding, oil & gas, or a similar industry
  • 3+ years' experience in technical project management
  • Field experience in an industrial or marine environment
  • Experience managing subcontractors or equipment vendors
  • Experience with classification society requirements and/or military standards and specifications

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design effort of Naval ship by a design agent
  • Support the procurement of ship equipment
  • Manage the timely delivery of equipment vendor design data
  • Liaise with customer, suppliers, and subcontractors on ship requirements
  • Support the construction of Naval Ships
