Job Summary
The successful applicant will be required to coordinate the workflow of several existing research studies in the Provincial Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) Clinical and Research Program and the Congdon Family Hospital Chair in Child and Youth Mental Health Research at BC Children's Hospital. This research will contribute to advancing the capacity for OCD-related and mental health research at the hospital. The research is multidisciplinary in nature and ranges from behavioural and neuropsychological studies, to genetic studies, to clinical treatment and outcome studies, to a Health Canada approved randomized clinical trial (RCT). The successful applicant will work under the direct supervision of the Provincial OCD Program Director and Child and Youth Mental Health Research Chair, and alongside post-doctoral research fellows and medical residents. The successful applicant must have a flexible schedule as assessment and consenting sessions often take place on weekends and evenings when families are available. Applicant will also supervise research assistants and summer research students. Additionally, the incumbent must be willing to travel, as assessments are occasionally done in-home.
Organizational Status
This position reports to the Director of the Provincial OCD Clinical and Research Program and the Congdon Family Hospital Child and Youth Mental Health Research Chair, and must be able to work well both independently and with an interdisciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, social worker, trainees and research assistants.
Work Performed
- Oversees the progress of various studies including monitoring intake rate, participation, and assessing study progression.
- Conducts structured psychological interviews (e.g. MINI) with patients with various psychiatric disorders, as well as healthy controls to screen out underlying psychiatric symptoms.
- Develops and writes protocol materials and research documents.
- Responsible for quality control oversight of studies.
- Assists with writing grant and research ethics applications.
- Recruits and schedules participants for various assessments and studies.
- Supervises and trains junior research assistants and volunteers, responsible for overseeing and assigning work to junior research assistants and volunteers; may make recommendations with respects to hiring and providing input into staff performance.
- Develops operating procedures, supports and ensures workflow for both the research and clinical sides of the Provincial OCD Clinical and Research Program to ensure efficient operation, make recommendations on workflow improvement as needed.
- Tracks and manages the program's finances, grant budgets, and HR activities.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Any errors in missing or being late for appointments, breaches in confidentiality, errors in assessments or poor interview conduct will tarnish the program's and hospital's reputation and could lead to loss of data and loss of participants. The person needs to be reliable and courteous with participants and colleagues. Professionalism is of the utmost importance. The person will also be required to exercise good judgment and discretion while using confidential information.
Supervision Received
The successful applicant will work closely with the Provincial OCD Program Director and the Congdon Family Hospital Child and Youth Mental Health Research Chair, as well as potential post-doctoral research fellows and medical residents working on a variety of projects as needed.

This position oversees junior research assistants, volunteers and students who assist with assessments, data entry, and various program related tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications
- Education and/or training in database management (e.g., REDCap), neuropsychology, psychometrics, and/or basic programming/coding are considered to be assets.
- Experience with consenting participants for research, with preference for a candidate with training in consenting for biosample collection.
- Experience in administering standardized assessment measures is desired, with preference given to candidates with work experience in a clinical setting and training in administering tests such as the MINI (Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview).
- Experience with biosample collection (e.g. buccal and saliva samples) and genetics research preferred.
- Ability to effectively use the computer software and applications on the Mac OSX operating system, including Microsoft Office, and internet applications and tools is required.
- Experience with SPSS or other statistical software packages is desired.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with a diversity of people in a calm, respectful, and effective manner.
- Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as assessments take place when families are available.
- Demonstrated ability to develop knowledge products such as infographics, newsletters, fact sheets, web content, lay summaries, presentations and/or video stories.
- Experience with planning knowledge translation events
- Ability to apply decision-making and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize, and to plan, coordinate, and organize work.
