Job Title: Controller

Job Summary:

Meridia Recruitment Solutions is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our client's accounting and finance team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the recording and reporting of financial transactions, financial controls, and business analysis required for the day-to-day running of five retail stores and a distribution warehouse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Review transactions posted through the point of sale and general ledger, and ensure all account reconciliations are completed on a monthly basis.
  • Financial Analysis: Prepare the quarterly and annual working paper files and financial statements, and compile information for key performance indicators to be distributed to the owners.
  • Inventory Control: Oversee inventory control processes, including cycle counts and reconciliations.
  • Accounting and Finance: Manage an Accounts Payable employee, provide support in ensuring they are able to complete their day-to-day responsibilities, engage in regular coaching and performance management, and complete a formal performance review yearly.
  • Business Analysis: Provide support to the ownership and management team in terms of compiling, interpreting, and understanding financial results, and produce quarterly reports for store managers.
  • Process Improvement: Regularly review, analyze, and assess systems, controls, and processes, and proactively take actions as needed to make improvements.
  • Ad Hoc Reporting: Conduct ad hoc reporting as requested to assist with business decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Education: Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting, etc.).
  • Experience: 5+ years' experience of accounting experience (retail accounting experience is an asset).
  • Skills: Strong analytical skills, excellent communication skills, solid understanding of full cycle accounting, and proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Personal Qualities: Genuine interest in business operations and contributing to the success of the team.
