Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Automotive Mechanic to join our Transportation team at the Department of Highways and Public Works. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for servicing and repairing a wide variety of automotive vehicles and equipment, including chainsaws, small packers, generators, and mowers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, service, and troubleshoot light and medium duty automotive vehicles, as well as various small engines
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs
  • Diagnose and repair electrical/electronic systems
  • Work with boilers and/or 5th/4th class power engineer certification (asset)
Requirements
  • Red Seal Journeyman Automotive Service Technician
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection certificate (within 6 months)
  • Class 5 driver's license or equivalent
  • Fifth class power engineering certificate (to be met within 1 year of hire)
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate (to be obtained within 6 months of hire)
  • WHMIS certification (to be obtained within 1 month of hire)
Working Conditions
  • Capacity to lift heavy objects and work at heights
  • Work in adverse weather conditions
  • Guide and work with apprentice mechanics
  • Work outside of headquarters area for extended periods of time
  • Accept standby shift responsibilities
  • Use personal protective equipment
