Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Care Supports and Education, the manager is responsible for providing leadership in Indigenous Health services including capacity building, strengthening existing relationships, collaborating with Indigenous partners as well as the ongoing administrative and clinical supervision of assigned provincially focused services within the Mental Health and Addictions area. The manager will participate in and contribute to the development, implementation, operation and evaluation of programs. Ensures that a client-centered philosophy and approach is maintained, enhanced and integrated into the development, provision and support of Shared Health Mental Health & Addictions programs and services.

Main Functions

  • Collaborates with local, regional and provincial partnerships to address Indigenous health priorities of First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples; addresses system-level gaps (racism jurisdiction) and acts as an advocate related to the systemic issues in health services;
  • Balances traditional Indigenous knowledge and world views with western knowledge to bring Indigenous voice and perspective to Shared Health, Mental Health and Addictions and introducing Indigenous perspectives and Etuaptmomk (Two-Eyed Seeing) in the planning and delivery of services.
  • Collaborates with clinical leadership and internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe, effective and appropriate support through a clinical quality and patient safety lens that will shape an environment for clinical education and service excellence.
Experience
  • 5 years of progressive management experience leading health services in a large, publicly funded health services delivery organization including:
    • 3 years directly related clinical experience working with local, regional and provincial partnerships to address Indigenous health priorities of First Nations, Metis and Inuit Peoples; addressing system-level gaps (racism jurisdiction) and advocating for systemic issues in health services.
    • 2 years of supervisory or management experience in an interdisciplinary and/or unionized team environment.
    • 2 years' experience implementing program planning, development and evaluation.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Post-secondary degree in relevant health discipline from an accredited education institution (i.e. BSW, BSc.MH, BSc.PN, BN) required.
  • Master's prepared (MSW, MOT, MSc.PN, MN, MA (Psychology), MPH, etc.) is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate.
  • Valid driver's licence.
Qualifications and Skills
  • An individual of Indigenous Ancestry is a requirement of this position.
  • Demonstrated mid-level leadership capabilities. The provincial health system in Manitoba has adopted the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health and Addictions and Co-Occurring Disorders.
  • Knowledge of the provincial health system.
  • Collaborative leadership capabilities.
  • Research, program development, training, education, evaluation skills.
  • Systems thinking, continuous process improvement skills.
  • Change management knowledge is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in the area of human resource management, budgets and financial reporting.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 10 kg.
  • Interruptions to respond to questions from executives, and partner organizations are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver's license and use of a personal motor vehicle for regular travel within the province.
