Detailed Overview:

In alignment with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards and Fraser Health's Mission and Values, the Registered Nurse plays a vital role in providing direct patient care. This includes assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating nursing care for patients.

The primary objective of this role is to offer registered nurses the chance to enhance their skills by rotating through specialized nursing units before or during their postgraduate coursework relevant to the specific nursing field. Successful candidates will be expected to engage in and complete postgraduate specialty nursing programs within set timelines.



Responsibilities:

  • Assess patients, gather information through observation, communication, and physical assessment, make nursing diagnoses, and determine appropriate interventions.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to develop care plans, establish therapeutic relationships, and involve them in the care planning process.
  • Participate in care and discharge planning, coordinate nursing care, prioritize tasks, and collaborate with the interprofessional team for comprehensive care delivery.
  • Teach patients and families about health-related topics, assess their learning needs, provide support for self-care, and facilitate referrals to other healthcare/community agencies.
  • Document assessments, interventions, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards and organizational procedures.
  • Participate in nursing committees, conferences, in-services, educational programs, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide feedback on patient care programs, policies, and equipment effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM.
- Completion of relevant postgraduate specialty nursing courses/program or willingness to do so.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

  • Conduct patient assessments and provide nursing care using appropriate interventions.
  • Effective communication with patients, families, medical staff, and the interprofessional team.
  • Promote person-centered care, demonstrate empathy, and advocate for patients' rights.
  • Analyze data, problem-solve effectively, and instruct patients on healthcare topics.
  • Organize work, collaborate with the care team, and utilize evidence-based practice.
  • Operate equipment, prioritize tasks, and meet physical demands of the role.
