We are looking for a System Simulation Engineer to join our HVDC team at Hitachi Energy – Montreal. You will be part of a team of talented engineers working for performance studies department under Systems Design, reporting to the HVDC Engineering Manager in Canada. You will be responsible for simulations studies in phasor and transient domains as well to prepare, simplify and adjust complexes simulation models supporting the definition of the equipment that will be used in our HVDC converter stations and yard, working from tender phase to project execution. You will interface several departments and handle needs and inputs required for your tasks. Responsibilities:

  • Your main task will be simulation studies in phasor (RMS) and transient (EMT) domain including verification of dynamic performance of HVDC control and protection.
  • You'll be responsible to convert large network models' data to reduced network equivalents and also to develop models in various simulation tools used for power system studies including virtual representation of real control and protection system
  • You'll collaborate and support factory system test and real-time simulator teams during control and protection test.
  • You will work from for tender support to projects execution.
  • Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Maintain network of engineering professionals and share engineering best practice across different projects and disciplines.

Qualifications:

  • We are looking for engaged, structured, persistent, well-organized, and driven person who is a true team player Engineering with Bachelor's or MSc. degree in Electric Power Engineering or similar
  • +2 years' experience with studies in EMTDC tools with HVDC technology, HVDC control, dynamic modelling, system studies and simulation tools (PSCAD, PSSE, EMTP RV, PowerFactory, etc.).
  • Keen interest in how and why things really work the way they do and pay attention to detail in order to navigate different challenges.
  • Able to approach complex problems by applying analytical skills and work in a structured manner.
  • Taking responsibility for your work and deliver on time.
  • You are ready to work in an international and multicultural work environment.
  • Proficient in English since you will be part of a company that operates on the global arena.
  • French speaking is an asset.
