Job Summary
The Town of Newmarket is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Skate Park Coach to join our Recreation and Culture Team. As a Skate Park Coach, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality skateboarding programs and services to our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and take down skate park equipment as needed, and report any issues or repairs to the Youth Centre Director.
- Develop lesson plans and evaluate the progress and participation of students.
- Write and distribute report cards outlining students' accomplishments and recommendations each session.
- Keep track of participant attendance during lessons and monitor entry and exit of program participants.
- Supervise and maintain a safe environment for participants, ensuring they wear appropriate safety equipment.
- Complete incident/accident reports, provide basic first aid when needed, and notify the Youth Centre Director when required.
Requirements
- Minimum 2-4 years of skateboard or scooter riding experience.
- Sport and recreation instruction experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with children, youth, and adults.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the general public, participants, parents/guardians of participants, and staff.
- National Skateboard Certification Skate Program Level 1 or 2 is an asset.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and special events.
- A Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification is required.
- Current High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development) certification is required.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification or Safe Management certification is an asset.
