Your role

As Regional Line-Up Editor, your key task will be to oversee the production of news content in digital formats, primarily copy stories.

You will contribute story ideas and support the work of reporters. You will vet content and supervise its publication on digital news platforms. You will also be in charge of making editorial choices for the content lineups of the various digital platforms and delivery channels (apps, website, social media, etc.). Because you will be working in a cross-platform environment, you will also be asked to assist the Téléjournal Estrie anchor in vetting content and stories.

As you will operate in a multiplatform environment, you will also be required to interact with the station's other desks, the Téléjournal Estrie news anchor and radio news readers, in the validation of content and reports.

You will report to Charles Beaudoin, Senior Manager of Journalism and Programming in Estrie, and you will have to comply with Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices.

For reference purposes, the schedule is weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., but work hours may vary to accommodate production requirements.

More specifically, you will do the following:
  • Keep up with the news through various sources.
  • Determine stories and angles in tandem with the editorial team.
  • Determine the best formats to use, depending on the news and the time available.
  • Assign and coordinate the work of the digital editorial team.
  • Coordinate content deployment with the network as needed.
  • Vet and edit the work of reporters before publication. Request changes, if necessary. Identify sources and check facts.
  • Conduct image searches and embed any visuals, graphics, video or audio required to accompany the content.
  • Monitor news developments.
  • Ensure that platforms under your control are continuously updated.
  • Write alerts, copy and titles as needed.
  • Regularly monitor technology trends to keep up with best digital practices and technological innovations.
  • Use the various tools at your disposal to track content engagement.
Job requirements:

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Five (5) years' journalism experience or equivalent
Skills:
  • Confident, positive leadership
  • Extensive general knowledge
  • Excellent knowledge of current events, particularly in the Eastern Townships
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to communicate and work well in a team
  • Understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices
  • Superior French-language skills
  • Intermediate oral, intermediate writing and advanced reading proficiency in English
  • At least one (1) year's experience in a digital environment
  • Knowledge of social media as well as digital formats and trends
  • Knowledge of content management systems (Scoop, Picto, etc.) and audio/video management systems (Avid NewsCutter, Dalet Plus, Final Cut, etc.) an asset
  • Team coordination experience an asset
