Reporting to the Manager of Blackrod Connection Project, this field-based employee supports the construction and commissioning of Blackrod's pumping and storage facilities.

As part of the team, the Blackrod Field Engineer assists in technical aspects of facilities work such as fabrication, construction, and commissioning. The projects will follow South Bow's Project Delivery System (PDS).

The Field Engineer aids the Project Manager and Construction Management team with engineering and technical project needs.

Please Note: This role involves working at the Blackrod project site, approximately 150km south of Fort McMurray. Shifts are 14 days on and 7 days off, with accommodations provided on-site. South Bow covers transportation costs to Calgary on scheduled days off.

  • Applicants must have and maintain a valid Driver's License
  • Provide a Driver's Abstract for review
  • Travel regularly from Calgary to the project site
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SME), engineering service providers, prime contractors, and stakeholders to construct and commission according to design, aligning with commercial drivers and scope requirements
  • Ensure project design, technical scoping, design work performance, and change management comply with project and regulatory standards
  • Provide direct support to project managers and engineers to aid decision-making and milestones
  • Assist in procurement activities and material deliveries coordination
  • Resolve technical issues during construction and commissioning, handle RFIs and on-site issues
  • Support PMT in request for quote packages, change order requests, cost estimates, and risk registers
  • Communicate technical changes in the contract scope of work to contractors
  • Coordinate engineering activities for timely responses to RFIs
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project processes and systems
  • Support construction and commissioning teams focusing on safety and quality
  • Assist Construction Manager and on-site inspectors
  • Ensure proper Information Management and tracking of project records
  • Support punch list and turnover process
  • Help with Commissioning and Operations Integration Teams in turnover preparation
  • Ensure project quality objectives are achieved and document non-conformances, opportunities for improvement, and lessons learned
  • Share knowledge through mentoring and coaching
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in facilities construction or project execution
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in engineering design, construction, commissioning, or operations
  • Knowledge of crude oil facilities operations, design, regulations, and standards
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize technical information
  • Effective time management and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to health, safety, and quality standards
  • Strong team player with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
