Job Summary

The Pharmacy Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Pharmacist in the technical aspects of prescription filling and administrative duties, enabling the Pharmacist to focus on providing exceptional patient care. As a key member of the pharmacy team, the Pharmacy Assistant is expected to participate in all aspects of pharmacy operations, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receiving prescriptions from patients, ensuring compliance with provincial legal and regulatory requirements, and verifying prescription completeness, including patient information and prescriber details.
  • Performing computer functions as directed by the Pharmacist, including data entry, price checks, patient information updates, and prescription processing, including Latin abbreviations and dosage calculations.
  • Filling prescriptions under the supervision of the Pharmacist, selecting appropriate products, performing accuracy checks, and preparing prescriptions for pharmacist review.
  • Maintaining inventory control, assisting the Pharmacist in managing stock levels, and ensuring the pharmacy is well-stocked and organized.
  • Providing general housekeeping and maintenance, including stocking prescription supplies, keeping the dispensary clean and organized, and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Assisting with over-the-counter (OTC) operations, including ordering, stocking, and cashier duties as assigned by the OTC Manager and/or Pharmacist.
