About the position

We are seeking an In-House Legal Counsel I to join our expanding team.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Managing insurance litigation cases of various complexities from start to finish.
  • Creating legal opinions, pleadings, affidavits, and other legal documents to support applications, mediations, judicial settlement conferences, and trials.
  • Independently preparing and conducting applications, discoveries, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trial conferences, and trials.
  • Delivering legal educational seminars to the claims department and assisting colleagues from other departments with their inquiries.
  • Maintaining effective communication with the claims department and adjusters.

Your qualifications:

  • Active member of the Law Society.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in insurance litigation.
  • Knowledge in legal research and writing, including crafting legal opinions.
  • Experience in drafting pleadings, conducting discoveries, mediations, application documents, and pre-hearing memoranda.
  • Proficiency in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.
  • Previous trial experience, especially independent trial experience, is a valuable asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, alongside research and negotiation experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including managing multiple case files simultaneously.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong client relationships.
