Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS) have merged to form CPKC, the only truly North American railway. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in the efficient movement of traffic within our 20,000-mile network.
Job Summary:The Assistant Trainmaster will support the development, coordination, and execution of daily yard-terminal/road operating plans to ensure safe and cost-effective operations.
Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate train movements within the yard and mainline, supervising personnel and communicating across departments to ensure compliance with operating plans.
- Standardize processes related to operating plans, train arrivals, classification, building, inspection, and dispatching.
- Provide leadership accountability for safety, service, productivity, and financial metrics.
- Lead trains and engines operating employees, promoting safety and rule compliance through active observations and discussions.
- Occasionally operate trains, maintaining certifications and licenses as required by industry regulations.
- Assist with crew transportation to and from trains.
- Previous railway experience as a conductor, with locomotive engineer qualification an asset.
- 2 years' supervisory experience in logistics or an operational environment preferred.
- Availability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays in all weather conditions.
- Leadership presence with a drive for career advancement.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve complex issues.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and work situations.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear instructions and directions over radio.
- Ability to read and understand safety instructions, operating rules, regulations, and written material in English.
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Proficiency in MS Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
