About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented HSE Co-op Student to join our team at Magna Exteriors. As a key member of our Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, contractors, and the environment.

Your Responsibilities

As an HSE Co-op Student, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising with other departments to ensure safety compliance and assisting the HSE Manager/Coordinator in the creation and retention of related HSE records.
  • Assisting in the creation, update, and maintenance of HSE documents, policies, work instructions, and procedures.
  • Maintaining MSDS sheets and ensuring their availability to all employees and professional services.
  • Assisting with organizing Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews, equipment safety documentation, and filing appropriately.
  • Assisting in the Risk Assessments of equipment and processes to evaluate potential risks.
  • Organizing and classifying historical accident/incident statistics data and graphing results.
  • Helping to collect data and generate reports for HSE & Sustainability.
  • Organizing contractor-related safety documentation.
  • Completing various HSE-related projects as required.
  • Assisting the HSE Manager/Coordinator in preparation for HSE audits and inspections.
  • Assisting the HSE Manager/Coordinator in completing corrective actions to resolve inspections and audit findings.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality of all information obtained, written, or verbal, with the HSE department.
  • Performing all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by all health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations, promoting safety in the workplace.
  • Reporting all accidents/incidents and unsafe conditions/behavior.
  • Adhering to applicable quality systems and IATF16949 standards.
  • Adhering to and promoting the Employee Charter and working within the rules, regulations, and guidelines of the Plastcoat Employee Handbook.
  • Complying with the requirements of C-TPAT/PIP.
  • Conducting business in an ethical manner in compliance with the Magna Code of Conduct.
  • Participating in and supporting Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Maintaining work area in accordance with the principles of 5S and operating daily within these standards.
  • Ensuring work area is kept neat and organized.
  • Performing other duties as required.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and environment legislation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good presentation and leadership skills.
  • Computer literacy in word and spreadsheet programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who are currently enrolled in an Occupational Health and Safety-related post-secondary program, with a minimum completion of the first year. Experience in the automotive industry is an asset.
