The Salvation Army is seeking a reliable and skilled Kitchen Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our food services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of quality and service in our kitchen.

Description
  • Maintain food preparation and service in accordance with approved menus.
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of all menu items, including special luncheons and evening snacks.
  • Produce balanced meals economically by utilizing food donations and minimizing waste.
  • Maintain the highest level of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen, pantry, and walk-in freezer/fridge.
  • Ensure proper safety precautions and hygiene standards are followed, including Universal Precautions and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Assist the Head Cook with kitchen duties, including inventory management and equipment maintenance.
  • Make bag lunch meals and prepare evening snacks for residents with special dietary requirements.
  • Complete necessary preparations for the following day.
  • Treat all clients with respect and dignity.
Working Conditions
  • This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • May work with potentially aggressive clients.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • College diploma or Certificate of Food Management/Preparation, and/or a combination of education and life experience relative to the field of food preparation.
  • Possess current First Aid, CPR, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work both independently and under supervision.
  • Ability to lift/carry loads up to forty pounds.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
