Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner will function in an expanded nursing role, demonstrating autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions and manage patients in the Deep Brain Stimulation Clinic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence to care for patients with Movement Disorders
  • Collect and interpret data about patient health, determine medical diagnoses, and treat complex responses to actual or potential problems
  • Help adjust neuromodulation settings and support patients in managing symptoms and impacts of their movement disorder and neuromodulation
  • Deliver and coordinate patient and family education
  • Act as a resource and consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agencies
Leadership and Quality Improvement
  • Provide leadership in identifying opportunities for improving patient care
  • Support, guide, and facilitate the development of knowledge in nursing staff involved in this population of patients
  • Play a leadership role in quality improvement and administrative responsibilities
  • Participate in education and professional development activities/programs
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • College of Nurses of Ontario Registration in the Extended Class (EC) as a NP adult or NP Primary Health Care
  • Demonstrated expertise as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Current Certificate of Competence with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Five years Neuroscience nursing experience
  • Canadian Nursing Association Neuroscience Nursing Certification
  • Experience in nursing research methodology
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
  • Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) and Nurse Practitioners' Association of Ontario (NPAO)
  • Advanced nursing assessment skills and sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics/interventions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Program planning and evaluation methodology skills
  • Commitment to collaborative practice
  • Ability to work effectively independently and manage many competing demands
  • Capacity to adapt quickly to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Familiar and comfortable with technology-assisted healthcare delivery
