About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Intermediate Accountant to join our expanding Accounting and Finance team. This position reports directly to our Controller and will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, handling AP/AR, performing bank reconciliations, assisting in the preparation of schedules and reconciliations supporting financial statements and job cost reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accounts Payable (AP):
    • Process and review invoices related to construction, subcontractors, and project expenses.
    • Ensure timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices and subcontractor bills.
    • Reconcile vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and maintain positive vendor relationships.
    • Manage payment schedules, including checks, EFTs, and wire transfers.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR):
    • Generate and issue invoices.
    • Monitor and follow up on overdue accounts, ensuring timely collection of outstanding receivables.
    • Reconcile AR accounts and ensure accurate reporting of receivables.
    • Prepare AR aging reports and provide analysis to management on collection trends.
  • Bank Reconciliations:
    • Perform monthly bank and visa reconciliations to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and accounted for.
    • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between bank statements and company records.
    • Maintain detailed documentation of reconciliation processes and adjustments.
  • Job Costing/Project Reporting:
    • Assist in the preparation of month-end and year-end financial reports statements for construction draws.
    • Liaise with both the internal project management team and external vendors to ensure project timelines and objectives are met.
    • Analyze and report on project cost variances, budget adherence, and financial performance.
    • Conduct variance analysis on project budgets and provide insights to project managers and senior management.
    • Ensure all financial data is accurate and compliant with relevant accounting standards.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare financial reports for management review.
    • Preparation of:
      • Intercompany chargebacks.
      • Calculation of management fees.
      • Calculation of / preparation of monthly mortgage Interest & schedules.
      • Calculation of monthly cash distributions and return on investment.
      • Calculation of cash flow/cash requirements for various limited partnerships.
  • Audit Support:
    • Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and information.
    • Prepare supporting documentation for audit requests.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
    • Support the implementation of best practices in accounting processes and procedures.
    • Assist in extracting and organizing data from legacy systems.
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of migrated data by performing data validation and reconciliation.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting is required, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with Accounting ERP Software is considered an asset (QuickBooks, Sage, Premier Construction Software).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • While not necessary, preference will be given to candidates with experience in the real estate sector.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in accounting and financial data management.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities and a positive attitude towards challenges.
What We Offer

We are an on-site crew 5 days a week, however this role has the ability to work hybrid with 3 days in. We sometimes work late to make sure we meet our deliverables, however most work can be done during normal business hours. The ability to work flexible and irregular hours is required.
