About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at the University Health Network. As a key member of our Laboratory Medicine Program, you will play a vital role in supporting our pathologists and laboratory staff in providing high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Specimen Preparation and Handling: Assist in the preparation and handling of specimens for examination, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Documentation and Communication: Maintain accurate and detailed records of specimen findings and communicate effectively with pathologists and laboratory staff.
  • Quality Assurance and Safety: Participate in quality management activities and adhere to established safe practices to promote a safe working environment.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Work effectively as a team member, providing support and assistance to colleagues as needed.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with advanced level courses in anatomy and physiology.
  • Experience and Skills: Previous experience in surgical pathology specimen grossing, with strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Certifications and Training: Current certification in medical laboratory technology (MLT) or pathology assistant (CCCPA/ASCP) and completion of a NAACLS PA training program.
