Job Function: Provide comprehensive electrical engineering services, including power distribution, machine controls, and electrical installations, to support manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and specify electrical systems, including power supplies, control systems, and interconnections, for new and existing equipment.
  • Install, test, and maintain electrical and control wiring, equipment, and systems, including PLC programming and system commissioning.
  • Design and install 600v power supplies, specifying sources and installing power switches, fuses, and wiring.
  • Design, assemble, and install new control panels or modify existing ones.
  • Create and install power controls, low-voltage devices, and instrumentation for plant equipment and processes.
  • Develop and maintain PLC and HMI programs, as well as operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Support maintenance in troubleshooting and repairing power distribution, production, and facility equipment.
  • Coordinate and schedule electrical tasks and jobs for maintenance electricians and contractors.
  • Provide feedback on energy consumption and suggest improvements.
  • Update power single-line drawings, power distribution layout drawings, and lighting fixture layout drawings.
  • Perform lighting modifications and upgrades.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • PLC programming experience with ladder logic, function block, and knowledge of Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi, Automation Direct, and Beckhoff PLCs.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical, automation, process equipment installation, wiring, commissioning, and service.
  • Knowledge of wood manufacturing processes, robotic controls, and CNC machines.
  • Knowledge of and experience with codes and standards for hazardous areas.
  • Experience with electrical certifications.
  • Experience with directing and working closely with industrial electricians and electrical contractors.
  • Experience in designing electrical system schematics and layouts, program creation, modification, repair, installation, maintenance, improvement, and troubleshooting of industrial electrical equipment and associated controls.
  • Experience with AutoCAD software.
  • Knowledge of quality control management systems.
  • Knowledge of CMMS software Maximo.
  • Adept in MS Office applications - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project.

Strong Skills In:

  • Hands-on experience in an industrial setting, working with electrical power distribution, machine controls, PLC controls, safety controls, VFDs, equipment installation, wiring, and commissioning.
  • PLC and HMI programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining backup programming and parameters.
  • Operating in a team environment, including team direction, training/coaching, motivation, and flexibility to multiple tasks.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent verbal, writing, and reporting skills.
  • Troubleshooting production and facility equipment and systems.
  • Reading, interpreting, and enforcing the Electrical Safety Code.
  • AutoCAD software.

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and P.Eng. designation required.
