About the role

Job Specification: The Supervisor, Laboratory and Controlled Substances at Reworld leads operations for the two licensed teams, ensuring strict compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements. This role is instrumental in upholding the facility's waste analysis plan and ensuring its thorough evaluation and compliance.

Main Functions:

As Supervisor, Laboratory and Controlled Substances, you will oversee critical onsite laboratory operations and testing procedures essential to our facility's functioning. Your responsibilities include determining acceptable waste streams, collaborating closely with operations for efficient processing, and maintaining rigorous standards of quality and safety. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you play a key role in managing controlled substances, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines, and fostering a positive health and safety environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee and lead laboratory activities and programs, managing records and providing technical support for equipment and data analysis tools.
  2. Conduct comprehensive analysis of incoming samples, meticulously documenting results both physically and digitally.
  3. Conduct bench studies (treatability tests) on waste materials, innovate new methods, and ensure safe waste management practices.
  4. Provide expert guidance on operational activities and regulatory compliance.
  5. Manage inventory of laboratory equipment, supplies, and analysis tools.
  6. Evaluate treatability of new samples and uphold laboratory cleanliness standards.
  7. Ensure strict adherence to health and safety standards while actively supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  8. Assist with sample preparation, analyses, and coordination with production personnel.
  9. Support laboratory, sales, and operations teams with technical expertise and problem-solving.
  10. Manage discrepancies in incoming and outgoing materials and maintain precise records.
  11. Review analytical reports to verify compliance with disposal site parameters.
  12. Assist in Emergency Spill Response (ER) procedures and oversee receipt, destruction, and disposal of cannabis and precursor shipments.
  13. Prepare necessary documentation for cannabis deliveries in strict compliance with regulations.
  14. Ensure proper storage of cannabis and precursors in accordance with Health Canada regulations.
  15. Address customer requirements related to cannabis and precursors professionally and efficiently.
  16. Participate in physical inventory checks of cannabis products and meticulously document any discrepancies.
  17. Coordinate with Health Canada and lead on-site visits or audits as required.
  18. Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
  1. Hold a post-secondary degree in a related scientific discipline (chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, chemical engineering, medicine, or dentistry) from a Canadian university or possess equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum 5-8 years of experience as a laboratory chemist.
  3. Preferred leadership experience (1-3 years).
  4. Familiarity with Canadian pharmaceutical industry practices is an asset.
  5. Willingness to acquire expertise in Cannabis Regulations.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  7. Knowledgeable in safety requirements and proficient in handling laboratory equipment.
  8. Strong organizational and priority management skills.
  9. Ability to wear a cartridge mask on a weekly basis.
  10. Possess a valid driver's license.
  11. Experience handling both non-hazardous and hazardous waste.
  12. Familiarity with hand tools, hand trucks, and forklifts preferred.
  13. Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate appropriately across diverse audiences.
