About the role

As our next Geotechnical Manager, based in Vancouver, you will lead a team of geotechnical professionals to collaboratively deliver high-quality solutions and results for our clients.

Job purpose

To ensure efficient and effective delivery of projects, including risk and quality management. The candidate should have experience in the development of technical documents (reports) for key clients through various project execution phases (scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility, site assessment, remediation, and decommissioning/closure). The candidate will maintain, build, and further develop client relationships as part of our project delivery and business development goals.

Salary

The salary for this position ranges from C$150,000 to C$180,000, based on your qualifications and experience.

Skills Required

Core Functions

  1. Participate in management of AMC as a business.
  2. Develop new business according to the Business Plan.
  3. Pro-actively pursue marketing activities to promote AMC (e.g. publish technical papers or articles, attend technical conferences).
  4. Lead the geotechnical team to develop work for themselves and other consultants.
  5. Undertake own consulting.
  6. Act as Project Manager for designated projects.
  7. Act as Peer Reviewer for designated projects.
  8. Manage own personal and professional development.
  9. Assist in staff recruitment.
  10. Coach, mentor and build skills of group members.
  11. Conduct performance reviews for group members.
  12. Address appropriate Occupational Health and Safety issues.
  13. Manage workload/resources for the geotechnical team.
  14. Support for all projects being completed by team members.
  15. Report to Regional Manager on a regular basis regarding projects and team.
  16. Appoint Project Manager and Peer Reviewer for projects within the group.
  17. Maintain good relationships with clients to advance the reputation of AMC.
  18. Build relationships with new clients.

Competencies

  1. Sound working knowledge of a broad range of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering practices with expert knowledge in one or more aspects of mine engineering.
  2. Experience in both surface mining and underground would be regarded favourably.
  3. Experience conducting regular site inspections for quality assurance and quality control of ground support installations.
  4. Experience in defining support requirements following best practices for active mining operations.
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders including senior management, technical professionals, and operational personnel.
  6. Problem-solving skills
  7. Strong customer and team focus
  8. Report writing skills
  9. Computer software skills
  10. Good written and spoken English
  11. Good understanding of the business of consulting in accordance with the Business Plan.
  12. Good interpersonal skills

Qualifications and Experience

A degree in mining, civil, or geological engineering with more than 15 years’ experience relevant to the responsibilities listed above. Registered as a P.Eng. in British Columbia or be eligible to apply for registration.
