Your impactThe Director Project Controls, Practices and Assurance is responsible for leadership of the Project Controls function across Newmont’s Global Projects and Studies organization. The primary accountabilities of this role include advising on, establishing and maintaining standardized project controls practices, systems and assurance processes to ensure project quality, compliance and successful delivery while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and best practice across the organization
- Advise on, establish and standardize project control processes, methodologies, and tools to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.
- Design, implement and drive the tracking of project performance metrics, including schedule, cost, scope, and quality, to ensure projects are on track to meet objectives.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews of project control practices to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with established standards.
- Shape and apply risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
- Verify that all projects adhere to quality standards and standard methodologies, conducting quality assurance checks and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Oversee the delivery of training and development programs for project leaders and team members on project control practices and methodologies.
- Drive effective communication with key internal stakeholders and external partners (including joint venture partners), delivering regular updates on project performance, risks, and issues.
- Lead project budgeting and cost control activities, working closely with Director Project Controls (Regions), Director Estimating and Planning and Project Controls Managers as a subject matter expert to verify accurate forecasting, tracking, and reporting of project expenditure and schedule progress.
- Recommend and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project control processes, leveraging feedback and industry standard methodologies.
- Responsible for identifying relevant risks, applying mitigation measures, and continuously investigating for risks.
- Expert level proficiency in project control processes, project execution methodologies, project systems, quality assurance, and stakeholder communication.
- Sound understanding of project and study management processes, risk management, and quality assurance.
- Knowledge of commonly-used industry systems for project management, project controls and risk is essential. Considering the leadership aspect of the role, the accepted body of knowledge, such as formal education qualifications in Project Management, Business Administration, or related fields, are critical.
- It is also necessary for this role to draw on knowledge that has been gained through work practice with project performance metrics and continuous improvement initiatives on large scale, complex capital projects in the infrastructure, mining or oil and gas sectors.
- Extensive experience in delivery of large scale mining and infrastructure projects in senior project roles such as Project Director or Project Controls Manager.
- Familiarity with project controls people capability, process and system requirements for different types of project delivery models, including owner-led (self-perform), integrated team, EPCM, and EPC.
- Essential soft skills for leadership and support functions are critical.
- Proven ability to influence outcomes with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with project controls tools and software, including the ability to carry out specific activities using appropriate tools and processes to achieve defined business outcomes.
- The primary location for this position is the regional office in Vancouver, BC. However, qualified candidates in proximity to our other locations in Denver, Brisbane, Melbourne, or Perth are also encouraged to apply.
- If the successful candidate is hired in Denver, CO the applicable base salary range is USD $172,500 to 241,500

The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ 180,000 to 252,000. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
