An exciting opportunity awaitsWe currently have an opportunity for an Accounting & Treasury Specialist to join our team in either our Winnipeg or Steinbach branch. As an Accounting & Treasury Specialist you will assist the Finance Department in the development and implementation of corporate budgets and forecasts, supports the treasury functions and financial reporting for SCU and its subsidiaries.
Specific Responsibilities- Delivery of asset liability management analysis and reporting to Director, Finance & Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This includes measuring and monitoring interest rate risk, foreign exchange risk, and net interest margin.
- Researching, developing and maintaining strategic tactics and operating policies to optimize the asset/liability position while managing risk
- Monitor daily cash positions and identify potential opportunities for investing excess funds in accordance with SCU Board policy and management strategy
- Ensure compliance with Liquidity requirements and support forecasting of future liquidity
- Ensure appropriate US dollar matching position daily
- Manage securitization program reporting and identify areas of opportunity for future securitization in accordance with SCU’s Asset/Liability Management Philosophy
- Work in tandem with external parties to ensure compliance with Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) requirements
- Manage current interest rate swap portfolio and participate in development of policy on future interest rate swap and derivative structures to support SCU’s Asset/Liability Management Philosophy
- Assist in monthly consolidated and departmental financial reporting process, including analysis of results and addressing any variances to budget as required.
- Support the Director, Finance in the year-end audit process and preparation of the Annual Report
- Support department with month-end reconciliations such as prepaid expenses, payables, receivables, and fixed assets functions by addressing questions/concerns, researching and interpreting accounting policy, and/or processing financial data as required.
- Support compliance with all tax-related regulatory bodies for the SCU and subsidiaries
- Support monthly and annual compliance with Credit Union regulatory bodies.
- Complete monthly & quarterly updates of predictive financial analysis & scenario reporting based on changes to future economic trends, and as required by Director, Finance or CFO
- Develop further forecasting models to assist with decision-making at the senior level of the organization.
- Support analysis of external modeling provided for the Credit Union
- Support Director, Finance with the annual business plan/budgeting process, including development of operational department budgets and margin analysis.
- Collaborate with department managers across the organization to ensure accuracy in the budgeting process.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting plus 4 to 6 years of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPA or CFA designation (or working towards a designation).
- Experience in asset liability management modeling would be an asset.
- Business acumen
- Software proficiency
- Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel
- Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Knowledge of corporate taxes, GST/HST, RST, etc.
