Reporting directly to the Aquatic Manager, the Aquatic Supervisor is a key team member in the Aquatics department, who will:

  1. Provide direction and support to all lifeguard and instructional staff and instill the Y's core values of caring, respect, responsibility, honesty and inclusiveness.
  2. Assist the Aquatic Manager in the provision of aquatic instructional and recreational programs.
  3. Work efficiently and effectively, providing guidance and leadership to aquatic staff and building relationships with our members.
  4. Able to work independently and with flexibility to problem solve, fulfilling day-to-day shift supervisor duties.
  5. Monitor the general safety and maintenance of the pool deck, change rooms, and associated areas, and report concerns to the appropriate department.
  6. Organize and ensure the pool is set up for scheduled activities and that user needs are sufficiently met.
  7. Coordinate, supervise and deliver instruction for First Aid, Advanced Courses, and Swim Lessons, as required.
  8. Administrate group bookings, including all rentals and school swim lessons.
  9. Be the lead in emergency situations and ensure first aid supplies, emergency equipment and program equipment are in order, performing safety inspections as required.
  10. Ensure that all awards or certifications are kept current and up to date.
  11. Ability to work a variety of shifts, including daytime, evenings and weekends at multiple YMCA of SIBC Aquatic facilities.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  1. YMCA Canada Swim Instructor or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
  2. National Lifeguard Certification-Pool Option.
  3. Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  4. Airway Management and Oxygen Administration (AMOA) certification.
  5. National Lifeguard Certification-Waterpark Option (an asset).
  6. Lifesaving Instructor (LSI), First Aid Instructor (FAI) and National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI) are considered assets.
