This position provides support to civil engineering projects in planning, design, and execution phases. Role will assist the regional manager/construction project management with site visits, data collection, CAD drawings, construction progress reports, civil engineering investigations, and project coordination for wireless, wireline, and EV charger site projects.
Qualification Requirements- Minimum Qualifications
Enrollment in co-op education BEng Civil Engineering. Minimum completion of 2 years in the BEng Civil Engineering university degree program. Strong desire to work in the office and in the field. Strong desire to gain experience in telecommunications project execution. NS (Provincial) Driver’s License and clean driving record. Experience working in a project environment. Experience with teams either sports and/or work history. Desire to work in the telecommunications industry. Willingness to cross-train and support other company divisions.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and GSuite. Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to give direction and training to Engineering/Construction peers and teammates. Ability to multi-task and work on distinct functions of overall project simultaneously. Ability to compile documentation and reports. Ability to extend learnings beyond the classroom to apply to real-world situations. Ability to problem-solve and present logical solution alternatives to superiors and teammates. Ability to self-direct and manage time accordingly to meet deadlines. Proficiency in driving processes to committed timelines through various stages of project(s). Experience communicating directly with and providing services to clients. General knowledge of RF equipment including radios, antennas, and related equipment.
- Essential Functions
Co-op engineering student would assist and support Construction Project Managers and Engineers with the following functions: Negotiate pricing and manage subcontractors as it pertains to small cell node construction. Work to identify new resources as required by the project for suppliers and subcontract labor. Issue or oversee issuance of vendor purchase orders to both suppliers and subcontractors as needed for the project. Compile and submit matrix pricing bids with assistance of project coordinator by client. Procure materials as needed for projects including purchasing and delivery. Responsible for scheduling construction activities through either in-house or subcontract labor resources and report schedule to client. Responsible for updating client trackers daily/weekly for various stages of completion based on construction schedule. Attend weekly conference calls with client to provide progress updates. Identify critical issues that may impact/delay overall project timeline and work with supervisor to present solutions to client. Manage project coordinator(s) to oversee administrative duties (permit submittals, purchase order request, etc.). Effectively communicate with Division Manager and/or Regional Director on regular basis regarding schedules, status, productivity, and performance. Establish and maintain good relations with clients, partners, and local authorities aimed at safeguarding and promoting client interests. Provide day-to-day production support for project issues; and be willing to travel 25-50%.
- Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment. Employees are regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, speak, and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, and crouch, lift weight, or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds. Work is completed both indoors and outdoors in all seasons. Work may be conducted in active construction sites. The successful applicant must have a pair of CSA approved steel-toed boots in good working condition. Additionally, the successful applicant is responsible for providing outdoor apparel for all weather conditions. Boots and outdoor apparel will not be provided by TEP Canada.
