Position: Social Service Worker Level 13 (Male Only)
FTE: Part Time Permanent 80%. 60 Hours Bi-weekly / Days, Nights, and Weekends – 12 hr shifts
Department: Health PEI, Mental Health & Addictions
Location: Hillsborough Hospital
Salary: $26.49 - $31.59 Per Hour
Start Date/Term Length: Commencing Immediatley
About The Job:
This position provides patient care and supervision on the Acute Care Psychiatric Unit and Safe & Secure at Hillsborough Hospital. The incumbent is responsible for providing patient care and implement behavioural modification and management strategies under the direction of the Unit Supervisor/Manager. Unit staff will work with patients, family members, guardians and other health care professionals and support agencies.
Duties:
- Working in a team approach to implement behavioural plans for patients with specific measurable treatment and outcome goals established;
- This will include helping patients and their caregivers to understand and manage behaviour better and learn to better resolve conflicts and situations that previously created difficulties in their lives;
- Providing 1:1 supervision for a patient with complex needs, which may include measures to keep them and staff safe when all less intrusive options are insufficient to meet these safety objectives;
- Ensuring that patient’s social and support needs are being met by facilitating and directing consistent contact with significant others and modeling supporting and healthy relationships;
- Transporting, accompanying, and supporting patients to appointments, assessments, social activities, or community activities; and other duties as required.
- Relocation of position within MH&A division when plans are finalized, and build is complete.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must have successful completion of a program from a community college in a related field and/or successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in the social sciences.
- Must have CPR, First Aid certification, non-violent crisis intervention, and suicide prevention training.
- Applicants must have proven experience working with families on treatment and possess the ability to implement behavioural modification plans in a non-authoritarian manner.
- Must have the ability to implement and negotiate successful family treatment plans and support families/caregivers throughout difficult issues.
- Must be knowledgeable of the developmental issues affecting individuals with intellectual disabilities and demonstrate the ability to deal with significant behavioural issues professionally.
- Must have strong skills in non-violent crisis intervention and behaviour management.
- Must be able to document activities and complete assessments.
- Must be flexible, adaptable, and have highly effective communication skills.
- Successful applicant must have the ability to work independently and in a self-supportive manner.
- Must have access to a reliable motor vehicle with a safe driving record and be authorized and approved to transport clients.
- Must be prepared to work shift work, including day, evening, and night shifts, and be flexible with work schedules.
- The successful applicant must have good previous work and attendance.
Other Qualifications:
- Advanced Code White would be considered an asset.
