The Occupational Therapist II is responsible to the Manager, Occupational Therapy. The occupational therapist will have a dual assignment including work as part of the Central Intake Team as a coordinator and as a clinical occupational therapist within a multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental assessment clinic (ASD/FASD). As a coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating referrals, collecting referral information, synthesizing clinical information, reviewing referrals, triaging referrals, providing appropriate recommendations and determining appropriate assessment team composition. You will be scheduling assessments within the clinic in keeping with the family's and child's needs. You will be collecting, reviewing, and reporting on relevant Central Intake statistics. The coordinator will work to optimize patient flow and improve the quality of the patient and family experience related to the Neurodevelopmental Multidisciplinary Clinic. The coordinator will act as a contact person for families and community agencies regarding neurodevelopmental referrals and will provide wayfinding support as required. The clinical role involves assessment of a child's/teen's motor skills, sensory processing, and activities of daily living. You will be writing reports and providing recommendations to the team, family, patient, and school. No ongoing treatment is required in this clinical role.

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Experience with tertiary level rehabilitation, community-based, or school-based occupational therapy, and family-centered practice. Minimum of five years of clinical experience assessing and treating pediatric populations with neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder. A comprehensive knowledge of the health system and community resources available to families. Demonstrated skills working within multidisciplinary teams, effective communication, planning, organization, and leadership skills are required. Must be able to participate in clinical assessments involving physical participation in motor related activities involving extended walking, bending, balance, and coordination. Ability to sit for extended periods and to read/write assessment reports with high efficiency.

Experience with Connect Care. Experience working with children or teens with neurodevelopmental condition(s) that may include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Tourette's, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disability, and/or mental health conditions.
